If we want to create a strong neighborhood, people must come first! All too often, Development and Redevelopment do not adequately respond to the human side of the equation. We need to pay specific attention to our youth. Currently, people aged 26 and under dominate the population of Forest Park Southeast. However, less than 10% of our resources are targeted toward them, and that percentage must increase.
In addition, we need to focus more energies on public safety and social development, and build strong partnerships with local, regional, and national organizations and agencies. We’re working to provide opportunities for everyone, regardless of their situation. We foresee residents helping residents, initiatives that foster wealth creation and retention, programs targeted toward public health and safety, supportive and engaging events for seniors and youth, collective mobilization of community change and the sharing of information. Our goal is to create an actively caring community for all our residents.
Our initiatives include:
- improve information sharing
- work with youth program
- work on youth curfew
- expand Community Center services
- improve public safety
- develop wellness program
- improve neighbor relations
- create community gardens
- address substance abuse and mental health
- increase resident participation
- program community-wide events
