Dec. 8, 2008 Grove CID Meeting

Grove CID Meeting
Noon Monday, Dec. 8
The Gramophone, 4243 Manchester

The Grove Community Improvement District has taken the first step to try to ease the parking crunch that leaves some Grove visitors struggling to find a spot to park, especially on the weekends.

At the December Grove CID meeting, an ad-hoc committee was formed to investigate potential parking solutions, which may include leasing private lots, installing meters on city-owned properties, purchasing land for parking use, and creating angled parking on side streets and eventually on Manchester. Grove merchants fear the situation will soon worsen during the closing of I-64/Highway 40, and more parking will likely be needed as the area continues to develop.

In other business:
  • Board members debated the creation of a marketing committee, which would promote the area and fund special events. Board members will decide whether to create the committee at the next meeting.

  • The Board approved a resolution to create a nominating committee to be a appointed ach year by the Board of Directors at its annual meeting in May. The nominating committee will identify potential candidates for the Board of Directors, with the Board voting individually on each seat. Nominations will also be allowed from the floor.

  • The Board agreed to send a letter to the Alderman, McCormack House and the Science Center expressing concern about available services for local seniors.

  • Brian Phillips warned about the difficulty in projecting sales tax revenue in the next few years due to the closing of I-64/Highway 40 in 2009, the poor economy, and the construction on Manchester in 2010. The CID will need to maintain a list of licensed businesses in the CID to submit to the Department of Revenue.

  • A group of Grove business owners have agreed to pay for security patrols on Saturday evenings through the end of the year. Police officers from the 9th District are also patrolling on foot on Fridays. The Grove CID will eventually pick up the tab for security on Manchester when it begins collecting revenue.

  • The Grove CID website has been updated with a list of local businesses.

  • Next meeting date: Noon Monday, Jan. 12, 2009
