CET Building III

The Center for Emerging Technologies released plans for a new 60,000-square-foot laboratory building and announced a $1 million donation from Monsanto to help fund the project.

Monsanto’s donation moves CET one step closer to securing the funds needed for the project. An additional $2 million to $6 million is needed before breaking ground.

The new LEED-certified $28 million building will house lab space for start-up companies in the biotech and life sciences industry. The building will be constructed on the south side of Laclede just east of Sarah, across from the post office. CET currently occupies two renovated buildings at Forest Park Avenue and Sarah.

Renderings show a three-story, white, modern glass-and-stone building featuring a curvy, omoeba-shaped reception area on the first floor, topped by two floors of lab space. The design was created by Cannon Design, whose local projects include the Solae Co.’s new headquarters, the Edward A. Doisy Research Center at Saint Louis University, and Washington University Medical Center’s Biomedical Research Building I currently under construction.

“This new building will provide the infrastructure needed to grow new companies and create new jobs, attracting new investments and knowledge workers to the region,” said Marcia Mellitz, president and CEO of CET. “As our economy develops more into a knowledge-based market, it is critical to create jobs in industries such as plant and medical sciences.”
